Carole's #CURRAN2019 Inspiration
I am back from Washington, DC, where I attended the swearing in of our new Speaker. On the return flight, with images of the most diverse class of freshman representatives in our nation’s history dancing in my head, I envisioned an imaginary line starting at our stage and running all the way across our country to the Capitol building. Never have I felt like the work we are presenting is in such direct conversation with the national zeitgeist as I do at this very moment.
That’s why I’m thrilled to announce that we will kick off 2019 at Curran by presenting THE JUNGLE, an extraordinary event of a play, fresh off its sensation-causing sold-out runs in London and New York. No stage work has ever offered a more jolting or empathic immersion into the immigrant experience, and I can promise you that it will open and change you in ways you didn’t know were possible. To accommodate this incredibly unique staging, we are once again completely transforming the Curran, and — in the process — reducing our capacity to an intimate 600 seats. Tickets for THE JUNGLE go on sale on January 29th.
After THE JUNGLE, we undergo yet another transformation, as we ready the Curran for the Tony Award®-winning Best Play HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD. And as you may remember from our Curran Under Construction series, we will always find creative and surprising ways to present exciting work even when the theater is occupied.
As we enter 2019, I am full of both excitement for the work ahead and gratitude for our continued journey together.
